Prototyping must begin with a sense of purpose and clear objectives. Prototyping  is primarily conducted to validate a design at its most fundamental levels. Secondarily, prototyping can be optimized for demonstration purposes. Often the prototyping process can carry over to design validation.

To launch a product design without first prototyping every possible risk area of the design is foolhearty and nearly always results in project failure.
